Statewide Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Collaboration Project

A collaborative project to improve the availability, accessibility, and awareness of resources and services in our communities.

The Missouri Behavioral Health Council has been awarded a grant through the Missouri Foundation for Health to support the Statewide Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) Collaboration project! We are partnering with the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), Office of State Courts Administrator (OSCA), National Center for State Courts (NCSC), and Policy Research Associates (PRA) to conduct SIM Mapping Workshops in every county/judicial circuit in Missouri through April 2025.

A Mapping Workshop brings together a team of local stakeholders. It utilizes the SIM tool in strategic planning to assess available resources, identify gaps/challenges in accessing services, and establish a plan for community change (and ultimately statewide change!). The SIM tool was developed to focus on those “intercepts” at each point in the justice system (including prior to law enforcement involvement) to improve cross-system collaborations and reduce involvement in the justice system by those with behavioral health disorders. Our goal is to improve the availability, accessibility, and awareness of resources and services in our communities at Intercepts 0 and 1 to decrease further involvement in the justice system for those individuals. Statewide systems-level solutions and trends in needs will be included in future Justice Reinvestment Initiative (JRI) Annual Reports to the Governor. Our project team will help with all the planning and logistics of each workshop (including example documents and templates to use)! You do not have to be a trained facilitator to start planning your workshop. We'll be able to help match your workshop with trained facilitators and provide the support you need to conduct a successful workshop!
